Rey & Idalia | Cathedral Oaks Event Center Wedding
Rey and Idalia's story is special to us, not only because they had the most beautiful and sweetest wedding day, but because as music educators ourselves, we LOVE they are also music educators! Their story began when they met as music majors in college, and they spent time together in many of the same ensembles. Their relationship developed gradually: coffee between classes, walks at the park, and time carved out in the middle of busy college music major schedules. As routines shifted during COVID, they stayed connected through FaceTime, continuing to build something consistent despite the distance. What began as a sweet and simple relation, became a steady and meaningful love over time.
Naturally, their connection with music carried into Rey’s proposal. During the TBA Convention (an annual band director convention each summer), he proposed along the San Antonio Riverwalk, an environment that already felt like part of their shared world. It was a natural setting for this huge milestone in their relationship, and they get to relieve this memory as they still return to TBA each year.
The Wedding Day
Idalia and Rey's wedding day took place at Cathedral Oaks Event Center in Central Texas, outside of Belton.
The setting established the tone early: open space, tons of gorgeous oak trees, and soft, golden light at sunset. Instead of a first look, they opted for a first touch, and honestly it made for some of the sweetest photos we've ever taken of a couple before their walk down the aisle!
As the ceremony approached, everything remained simple and focused on them. There was nothing short of simple beauty with a clear intention to keep attention on Rey and Idalia and the commitment they were making to each other.
A Joyous Reception
After the ceremony, their loved ones and family members stayed to celebrate with so much joy and love!
Guests gathered, conversations lingered, and the space naturally shifted from quiet anticipation to a more relaxed celebration. The timeline allowed for flexibility, which made each part of the day feel unforced.
Portraits of the bride and groom were met in the same way: minimal direction, using the landscape and available light to frame the two of them as they are. Nothing overly styled, just a reflection of their dynamic together. We used the gorgeous golden light to its fullest and captured as much of the day for the couple as we could!
Celebration Details & Atmosphere
Throughout the space, the details reflected the people closest to them.
Much of the décor was created by Rey’s mom, Shanna, giving the environment a personal foundation without feeling overly designed. It felt lived-in and intentional rather than styled for effect.
The reception carried that same comfortable, steady, and centered atmosphere with the focus on time with family and friends. Guests moved easily between conversations, dinner, and the dance floor, without a rigid structure guiding the night. One other detail that stands out to us and the couple: the cake and cupcakes were created by Dragonfly Sweet Dreams. Since then, the owner has passed away and the business has closed, making their presence in this day something that now holds even more weight.
Looking Ahead to Their Future Together
As Rey and Idalia move into their first year of marriage, their focus is straightforward: continuing to build a life together in the same way they started with consistency and with intention, and of course music!.
More shared routines, more traditions, and more time spent experiencing what comes next with their loved ones. We are so grateful to be a part of their incredible day and absolutely loved capturing these memories for them to last a lifetime!
